Today was interesting! (It usually is around here....)
Woke up and had a decent fasting blood glucose level. I figured since as of late the DiaBeta was making my blood glucose sink like the Titanic I'd make pancakes for breakfast and put minimal syrup. That worked like a charm! One hour after eating, it's supposed to be less than 140, and it was 144. I then got Dante and myself ready and we went to King Soopers with my friend Seth.
Had a blast, Dante recited the alphabet enough to drill it into my unborn child's head and he actually stayed in the car part of the cart without getting out. I think the cheese bribe helped. =D
Got home, put him down for a nap and played online until I felt my body get numb. It was one of the oddest feelings I have ever felt. This whole time I was working on an iced decaf Americano with soy milk, so I wasn't hungry, but the shakes were horrible! So I got up quickly (big mistake) and made myself a sandwich. That was ROUGH. My hands were shaking like a leaf as I attempted to put Miracle Whip on my bread and sliced tomatoes and cheese and put on some honey ham. I don't remember eating it, but I know it disappeared. After I finished the sandwich, I took my blood sugar: 68. YIKES! So I slammed a couple oreos and a couple Hershey hugs and took a nap. Woke up to take my sugar again, and it was 130. Creepy, non?
It took him a few hours, but Hubby made an AMAZING stew with shredded pork and potatoes...Wow. I think I may have overcompensated with the oreos because an hour and a half after I finished my huge bowl, I got a reading of 132. Not bad, but it should have been better. All that matters in my book is the fact that I didn't wind up in a coma. *shakes head*
On the bright side, tomorrow (technically later today) I get a growth ultrasound and we'll see how low she is and if she's head down. I'm fairly certain she is, so at the very least I'll get a few more pictures to add to my collection.
Then I get to ask my doc about this med, since it's doing weird things to me. And I'm still having problems getting my fingers to stop bleeding after I check them. THAT makes me worry!
And now I am going to play a few games, unwind my brain, and hope for the best!

ZAP!
So, today was yet another day that needed to be chronicled. I woke up at 1215p to take a shower, got dressed, packed up stuff to entertain Dante and snacks and juice, etc., and then got him up and dressed and we ran out the door to my 130p non stress test appointment.
Parking sucked, as per usual, and on the second pass around the office, I found decent metered parking in the shade. SCORE! We ran inside and were miraculously only ten minutes late. Unfortunately, they made us wait in the lobby for a bit. *shakes head* Dante took every pen out of the pen box by the receptionist, and when that got boring, he just took the whole darn box and attempted to count each pen. He also decided to make me sing the alphabet song ad nauseum until I was sure the receptionist closest to us was going to belt out a show tune just to stop herself from shooting us.
We were finally called to the back, and I got to have the elastic bands and doo-hickeys stuck to my bump with that gods-awful gel. But for some reason, the one that measures her heartbeat wasn't fond of the elastic and wouldn't quite pick it up, so I had to hold it in place with one had and the button to note when I felt her move in the other. But Little Miss was asleep. The next thing I know, the medical assistant takes out this device that looks like it could get the lint off a sweater, and she zapped my belly. Oh. My. Goth. Little Miss was LIVID. I think that was the first time Dante actually noticed my belly move, and it seemed to unnerve him. So as I got comfortable (ish), she took him to get pretzels. I thought that was super sweet.
For the first few minutes, he sat in a seat, reading the ABC's and eating pretzels in silence. The he decided that Mama needed a pretzel and tried to feed me one, but I couldn't because I had to test my blood sugar from breakfast first. The problem there was that my hands were full. And I couldn't reach my purse where the glucose monitor was, anyways.
After a total of about 15 minutes, a different medical assistant came in and MARVELED at how many times I felt her move. She even watched my belly in disbelief and realized I had probably missed a few movements because they were on top of each other. Another ten minutes, and she's back, still dumbfounded by my daughter's in utero ballet. She then told me that Doc wanted to see the printout, and lo and behold, just a couple minutes later, Doc was in there, also amused and amazed at how Little Miss can shake her hiney. She gave me a funny look, and told me she wanted to do a quick ultrasound just to check fluid levels, and I realized her funny look was because Dante is not the "sit quietly in a corner" type.
She took the printout and told me she'd meet me in the hall. I wiped the goo from my belly with a baby wipe since Dante threw away an entire box of Kleenex (hey, she handed it to him, not me!) and Dante threw away his pretzels. Sigh.
So I waddled down the hall, Dante in tow, and we went to the ultrasound room that the docs use (not the super bad ass one that the ultrasound tech uses.) Dante didn't want to sit and read, he wanted to cuddle with me. So I maneuvered him into a semi-awkward position that allowed him to cuddle and see the screen (I didn't!) and she got full access to my peach fuzz covered midsection. After just a few moments, she was able to tell that Little Miss' fluid levels were fine, and reminded me that my growth check up with the tech was on Monday.
So I put Dante down and wiped more of that disgusting gel off of me and got us out the door. We took off, and I was going to hit 7-11 before meeting up with Rob and Donna-Ann, but as soon as I parked at 7-11, I realized my wallet was at home. In the stroller. UGH!
So I hauled ass back home and just met up with my friends after getting my wallet. Our visit was awesome until the rain started. My blood sugar was in the 70's (thanks, DiaBeta!) and the half of a Fruit by the Foot and half of one of Dante's ZBars didn't help. So my kind barista gave me one of their day old muffins and Dante didn't even notice that I ate most of it.
When there was finally a break in the rain, we said our goodbyes to our friends and ran through the parking lot into our parking garage. Dante enjoyed some puddle jumping, and as soon as we got back upstairs, he was put in bed for a nap.
Got a nap, made dinner, and even after a dinner of baked chicken and mashed potatoes and steamed broccoli, my blood sugar was barely in the 90's. So I ate a couple brownies that Dante helped me bake. Apparently that's what it takes to get a reading of 119. Seriously. An hour after two brownies and a pint of milk and my blood sugar was 119. Apparently this is a wonder drug.
So now I am going to finish up my silly games and get to bed. Not sure what we are doing tomorrow, but it would probably be a good idea if I got some sleep first...

Knock Me Over With a Feather!
So, today started innocently enough. I got up butt early (for me, at least) at 815a to get my happy ass to a diabetes class that my doc wanted me to take, and I did actually learn a few things. It wasn't a COMPLETE waste. Met another Mama with GDM, and she was so sweet! She's due in less than two weeks, though, so she has less time than I do dealing with the finger sticks and such.
Decided to pick up a friend from the hospital they were at, and they were SUPPOSED to be out at 130p. I got there at 125pm. BIG. MISTAKE. Thanks to User Error, my friends paperwork wouldn't print, so the first 30 minutes, Dante and I waited in the waiting room out front. When he refused to stop sticking his hands in the soda machine and refused to stop playing with the DirecTV box, I said "SCREW IT" and we waited in the car with the AC on. Which kills my gas, but I figured it's easier to put gas in the car than it is to find Pedialyte and get him to the doc.
Finally got my friend, took them to the bank and then we went for gas. As I was getting back in the car, I realized it was 8 minutes to 3 and I was 30 minutes from my doc's office. Damn. So I didn't get an ultrasound today, but that's ok. Still got my GSB test and as soon as Doc saw my sugar levels, she prescribed me a drug called DiaBeta. Better than taking insulin, but I still feel like an ass for not being able to manage it by diet alone. So now, thanks to the prescription, I get to go in twice a week to get non-stress tests so they can see how Little Miss is moving and such. Understandable, but frustrating, since that means I get to take Dante on one of them a week. Yay. (Can you smell my sarcasm?) I get to take a rambunctious 2 year old to sit. In a room. With nothing to really entertain him and I will be strapped to something.
So today has been an interesting one. While I am very tempted to rant about what I perceive to be a massive injustice in Florida, I am going to leave it be. I can't let other people and their idiocy piss me off, or I'll be a walking time bomb. It is hard to maintain decorum when I am this angry, but life is all about learning, and I"m trying.
I am debating whether or not I want a nap. Part of me is amazed my eyes are open, but I'm not sure how I am going to sleep tonight...Ah. Life is just a great big science experiment. I am but a Bunsen burner in the chemistry lab of life.

How in the...?
The past few days have been odd. First off, I got the Official Gestational Diabetes Diagnosis last week. Imagine my delight. Then, to top it off, Dante has thrown himself into his role as a terrible toddler.
He's been throwing more tantrums, making me believe that my bi-polar tendencies are genetic. Case in point: Today I took him to Il Vicino for some pizza, and he threw a fit when I attempted to put him in a booster seat. I had to have the server take it away and tickle him to get him to stop screaming. Then he wanted to play with our table number. He would take the placard out of the holder, then demand I put it back. Then he'd cry that I took it from him in order to put it back. THEN, he thought he'd slam the SOB on the table. I said no, he did it again, I took it away, he cried. I tickled, gave him most of the tuna from my Pescatore salad and he was happy again.
We went to Rite Aid because a) it's next door to Sunflower, where we were headed and b) I needed to see why I have yet to receive my rewards card that I signed up for a few weeks ago. He threw a fit and nothing was accomplished...I may have chewed out the elderly manager. My bad.
But by the time I got him next door to Sunflower, he was perfectly happy. He was so cute! I smell the cantaloupes to see if they're ripe, and he wanted to smell, too. He pointed at the bunch of tomatoes on the vine I should grab, and he sang the alphabet while I picked out hamburger buns. He also said "Hi!" and blew kisses at our cashier. (*FACEPALM*)
Then we had to run to Target for a couple things and he was a doll until we got to the checkout. Then he decided he wanted to climb from the cart onto the conveyor belt. I barely caught him in time. Sigh.
And tonight, we put him down around 11. A bit early (by our standards), but he's already woken up 3 times. The first time, Daddy went in. By the second time, Daddy was asleep, so I went in, sang a few songs (how did I forget the words to 3 Little Birds by Bob Marley? I'm slipping!) and then just a bit ago he woke up, but I let it go, and he was back out in ten.
Le' Sigh.
In other news, I get even more tired of being pregnant by the minute. I can't bend over if I'm sitting on the couch, and I've been forgetting to check my blood sugar one hour after I eat, then I snack on something and the timer starts all over again. Ugh. But I think the extra vitamin D and cinnamon are helping....at the very least, when I DO remember to test on time, the numbers are good. Even after angel food cake, lite cool whip and fresh strawberries. And a sh*t ton of cantaloupe. (Some people do drugs, I eat fruit.)
But I think I am going to finish up my stupid games and get to bed. I'm finally starting to get tired. Odd.

Track Lists
I am going to need some help, here. I am starting to pack my hospital bag (because I am a neurotic Girl Scout!) and I know I will need at least 3 cd's to get through labor: 1) "Slow But Steady Wins the Race" 2) "You Got This!!!!" and 3) [stealing the title of a Combichrist song for good reason] "Get Your Body Beat."
Here are some of my early ideas, feel free to leave suggestions so I can search for these songs and figure it out!
Disc 1)
Caught a Lite Sneeze - Tori Amos
Every Day is Like Sunday - Morrissey
Come Closer - Tarkan
Tonight and the Rest of My Life - Nina Gordon
Near You Always - Jewel
Center of the Sun - Conjure One
Silence - Delerium
Maybe an Angel - Heather Nova
Invisible and Silent - Covenant
Damaged - Assemblage 23
Disc 2)
On A High - Duncan Sheik
I Want All of You - The Verve Pipe
Human Behaviour - Bjork
Caged Bird - Shroud
Mexican Moon - Concrete Blonde
Blue - The Birthday Massacre
Another World - Beborn Beton
Once in a Lifetime - Wolfsheim
Disc 3)
(the aforementioned) Get Your Body Beat - Combichrist
Blood - System Syn
Warlock - Skinny Puppy
We Stand Alone - Covenant
Isolation of a Realist - System Syn
Headhunter V1.0 - Front 242
Spark - Assemblage 23
Document - Assemblage 23
I am the Rain - Assemblage 23
Let the Wind Erase Me - Assemblage 23
Saviour (Vox) - VNV Nation
I can't tell a lie. Every song on the 3rd disc as it sits is a song that Chris loved. Most of these songs, we've danced to. *sigh*
But I think the general vibe of the other 2 is pretty straightforward. Any ideas?

Terrible 2's Can Kiss My Tush
For the last week, getting Dante to sleep either at nap time or bed time has been the basic equivalent of trying to nail jello to a tree: Useless. I wear him out, get him to where he's rubbing his eyes and almost to sheer lethargy, and as soon as I pick him up and head for his room, the TANTRUM starts. I can't deal with this. He's not the only person here that needs sleep. I'm not putting him down for a nap or to sleep to be an ass; I'm doing it for our mutual benefit. But, no.
Little Miss must be able to hear Dante's screams, because when he acts up and yells, she wiggles. Right now, Dante is yelling, Little Miss is wiggling, and I can't keep my eyes open! It screams of UNFAIR. I am about to pull out my hair. I'm already having a low day, and Dante screaming like a banshee isn't making this any better for me. I know he's tired; he hasn't slept! What the heck am I supposed to do? I'm incredibly tempted to just jump out the window...I'm tired!!! He's tired!! AAAARRRRGGGGH!
Anyone want to buy a really cute 2 year old? He may not be potty trained, but he sure is precious! *sigh*

Names!!!!
So, I asked a popular name blogger (You Can't Call It "It!") for advice, and here are some of the suggestions she had...I will put a * by the names I love, and let me know what you think!
Suggestions::
Suggestions::
*Adela- Spanish, “noble”– like Xipil
Araceli- Spanish, “altar of the sky”- could pay tribute to Christopher with the meaning
Belen- Spanish form of Bethlehem, used in Mexico as a given name.
*Calixta- Spanish form of the Greek Kallistos, “most beautiful.” I love how Dante and Calixta are old world names. You also get the C for Chris and the X from Xipil.
*Celia- A great name in English and Spanish, you are so lucky to have this in your family! Also a C name for Chris.
Cristina, Cristiana, Christabel- Lovely names that relate to your friend and also pay homage to your heritage.
Guadalupe- See above– wolf.
*Ibarra- For your grandmother. This may sound odd as a first name to Spanish speakers (?), but could make a wonderful middle.
Lupe- Again, WOLF!
*Nereida- Spanish, “sea sprite”, from the Greek. I’m not sure what your relationship is to the sea, but this name just jumped off the page at me.
Socorro- Spanish, “help, relief”– could represent life after Christopher’s passing.
Violeta- The violet represents love, fidelity, and modesty among other things.
Ylva- Old Norse for wolf.
*Ximena- Spanish, may be a form of Simon, meaning “he has heard.”
*Xochitl- Nahuatl for flower, used in Mexico.
*Xiomara- Spanish, “famous in war.” A traditional X name that pairs well with Xipil.
Combinations I love for you:
Lupe Christabel
Cristiana Ylva
Ximena Christabel
*Ximena Ylva
Ylva Cristina
*Ylva Calixta Christiane
Some of the commenters had great ideas, too!
Citlali Siobhan (Citlali means star, Siobhan is the female equivalent of Sean, my best friend's middle name)
Celita (A variation of Cielito, so essentially, a piece of heaven.)
I have my work cut out for me. I actually think having this many options was the equivalent of shooting myself in the foot. I am armed with some pretty good names, though...I just have no idea how I am going to choose. I'm fairly certain this will be the last chance I have to name a new human being, and I am taking the job very seriously. I know, me doing things seriously seems so unlike me, but this poor child will have this name forever, unless it's so horrible she changes it, or when or if she gets married, but that's just the last name. She gets to put this on resumes and college applications...GAH! It's making my head spin!
I think I am going to start dinner and try to unravel my brain...

Attack of the Almost 3 Foot Wiggleworm
I got Dante up, and dressed, and got him his milk. I packed along his new Superman book from his Auntie Anndie and we took off.
We got to Rose Medical Center and here's where I digress because it pissed me off. As we were parking, there was an elderly couple getting out of their car. The gentleman was using a walker, and his wife was on the hefty side. From where they were parked, there were two options to get him to the ER. They could either walk around and risk getting hit by a car, or this poor guy with a walker had to hand the walker to his wife and attempt the stairs. I offered to help, but in my current state, he refused. So I held the door for them, and pondered the Americans with Disabilities Act. This guy was in no shape to be taking stairs; he was there to get to the ER for Pete's sake! Grr.
So we met up with the Labor and Delivery tour group and Dante just turned on the charm like he had an internal switch! We all get to the elevator and make our way to the Maternity floor, and Dante was VERY excited to see all the baby pictures that lined the halls. We made our way to the labor/delivery room to take a peek (A FULL SIZE TUB! THAT I'LL ACTUALLY FIT IN! YAY!) and while we were in there and getting questions answered, Dante decided to play on the fold out sofa another lady and I were sitting on. Not too bad.
From there, we went to the postpartum room to take a look see and here's where the fun started: Dante found the breast pump. So we are listening to our tour guide, and the next thing we all heard was the "whoosh whoosh" of the breast pump motor. He Then grabbed his new book from my purse, sat with it for a New York minute and then noticed that the bed had electronic controls. He didn't make it go up and down or side ways, but he did manage to make it beep. Then, he tried to climb it, but it was raised too high, and he couldn't get a grip. *facepalm*
So from here, we go back to the lobby to ask more questions, and Dante just flirted SHAMELESSLY with a cute little 15 month old who was there with her parents. I did get some of my big questions answered, and now I just have to quiz the daylights out of my doc.
I am incredibly excited, and I am very happy with the choice I made to deliver there. Everyone was so very nice, and it seems like they will actually listen to me and take my concerns seriously, which should be nice. Wouldn't know, considering how horrible my experience was with the hospital I had Dante at. I'm all about nice changes of pace!
I think it's slowly sinking in for Dante that as much as I love him, he's not going to be my only baby forever.
But for now, I am going to sit back, enjoy some ice cold water and some news that I recorded, and contemplate getting up to make dinner.....
Am I Crazy?
I signed up to do a hospital/birthing center tour tonight....and I'm taking Dante. I figure he'll be better prepared if he can see where I am going to be and maybe he'll get a handle on what's going on. I also have to pre-register, and I may as well do it all in one shot. I figure in a few weeks I can take him back for their little class for big siblings so they learn that Mama still loves them, even when they are nursing the new intruder. I want this to be a smooth transition for him, and while I have a general idea of how well this is going to go over with him (like a turd in a punch bowl...) but I still want him to have information stored in his grey matter!
The best part of today (aside from the 10 minutes I got to see my friend Scott) was the awesome box of awesome-ness I got today! My friend back home sent me a care package! It's stuffed to the gills with cute baby girl outfits, a book for Dante, boob pads (leaks suck!), cinnamon capsules and binkies for Little Miss! I am so incredibly grateful! I have such amazing friends!
I'm sure I'll have an interesting story or two after our tour of the hospital tonight, so check back tomorrow, since I may not be able to blog until after my boys are asleep! =D

Danger is My New Middle Name
Took Dante with me to my 30 week appointment today. He screamed the whole way to the elevator, I have no idea why, and he was happy as soon as he saw my car and I put him in his car seat.
He was patient while I stopped at the bank, and was still being cute when I hit the drive thru at my favorite local coffee joint. He sang and played with his chattering Cookie Monster the rest of the way to my doc's office, and as soon as I unbuckled him, I suddenly knew what it was like to herd cats.
I got him safely across the street and up the stairs to the front door, and the next thing I knew, every old lady in a two block radius was telling me how gorgeous he was. I got him onto the elevator, and as soon as we got off on the 4th floor, he booked it towards the office like he'd been there before! As I signed in, he even tried to scribble like I was on the sign in sheet!
Here's where I can't believe we made it out alive and dry: I had to leave a sample, like I do every time I go in. I had forgotten about that. Luckily, there was only one marker, so I grabbed it, marked my name on the little cup, and hid it out of his reach when I was done. He tried grabbing the little cups that were in there and I had to go "EEEEWWWWW" before he finally left them alone. Finished, went to wash my hands, and he insisted on his hands getting washed, too. So I washed his hands, gave him a paper towel and (here's the great part!) he tried to open the door with the paper towel, like I do! It was so cute! I used my paper towel to open the door and turn off the light, and he was so excited to throw his away!
So we sat in the waiting room for just a couple minutes when I got called to get my weight taken (220.0) and then we were shuffled off to an exam room. He sat on my lap when I got my blood pressure taken (117/83) and then he wanted down. He played with the step stool on the exam table, spun the doctor's spinny stool and then realized the exam table had DRAWERS! So I gave him his banana (I was a Girl Scout, after all) and we read a book.
When Dr. B came in, she saw him and just giggled. She then answered my questions, told me that I get to have another 3 hour screen around the 23rd, and made a few suggestions I hadn't thought of. Then I got to hop back up on the table and she measured my belly (around 32 cm) and Dante got to hear his baby sister's heartbeat! He danced to it! It was one of the most precious things I had ever seen in my 32 years of existence! But again, isn't it hard not to dance to a sweet tune at 148bpm? LOL!
As I was wiping that cold goo off my belly, he decided we were done, and just opened the door and took off. I called him back, grabbed my stuff, and made a beeline for the receptionist desk. Made my appointment for the 13th, and he was off like a flash down the hall to the elevator.
We got back to the car and I realized that I had sent all the baby shower invites via Facebook, but there was one SUPER important person that didn't get an invite since she isn't on Facebook: My mom's best friend!!! So I called her, thinking I'd get voice mail, and I wound up getting to talk to her! Gave her the details, and I get to see her at the party! YAY!! I was a little dismayed that she told me she's bringing a gift; the real gift is her presence! Now, I'm not one to turn down a gift, but I really just want to see her! That is the next best thing to seeing my mom!
As soon as we got home, I got the mail and then we came up to get Dante's chalk and bubbles, and we went to the patio. I wanted to wear him out! I must've done a great job, because near the end our trip down there, he just decided to lay down on the cement!
Brought him back up, stuffed a peach and some chicken nuggets into him, and now he's out for a nap. And I must agree...it's nap time!

Didn't See THAT coming...
Today was too gorgeous to waste. After our nap, Dante and I went for a walk to get some sandwich bread and we had some fun while we were at it.
First, we went to 7-11 so I could grab a bottle of water, and then I noticed that Sugar Bake Shop was finally open! So I stopped in and got a couple cookies (one for Dante, one for me!) and they were DELICIOUS! We continued our journey to Walgreens, picked up some bread and I sneaked a new box of sidewalk chalk into the basket.
On the way back, I figured it was downright rude of me to get cookies for Dante and me and not get something for the Love of My Life. So I grabbed him a beef empanada from Sugar Bake Shop on the way back.
Got back to our building and took Dante to the community room so he could run around the patio for a bit and let some steam off. Plus, this way we got to play with his chalk and new bubble wand. Here is where I made my mistake. I decided to be nice and text Dante's former stalker and invited her out on the patio to join us. She said she'd be a few minutes and was there in a flash. She told me she was going to change (she was in pj shorts and a t shirt) but figured she'd come see us. Oi. Word to the wise, ladies. If you are going to go out and visit with a toddler and his mom, please be so kind as to wear underpants under your short shorts. PLEASE?! *shudder* *shudder again*
We got home, and Hubby wanted to make a quick shopping run and grab a quick dinner. So we went, hit Del Taco, and came home. It was awesome!
Now it's almost time for bed...Aside from the Underpants Snafu, if was a great day!
I have my 30 week appointment on Tuesday, and I am fairly certain I will have to take Dante with me. I'll post all about it as soon as we get back! LOL!

Bullet: Dodged. For Now.
Yesterday, I called the doc's office and got some great news! In order to "pass" the 3 hour glucose screen, I had to get decent scores on 2 of the 4 tests. I was happily surprised to hear that I only got an abnormal score on the 2nd stick, the one that's one hour after I guzzled that nasty Glucola. But considering it's 100 grams of glucose, I'm not surprised. I have to get tested again in a month, but that's a whole month of sweet (LOL!) freedom! I am tempted to ask if they can "prescribe" a glucose meter so I can start keeping track, and can make better choices without the diabetes diagnosis. I am just tickled pink that for now, I'm A-OK. I was dreading the thought of having to have insulin during labor like I did with Dante. That sucked a big one.
I'm still being a neurotic freak with my carb intake, and going as protein heavy as I can. I am still working my now non-existent ass off trying to avoid that terrible diagnosis again. (While I'm thinking about it, how the hell did my once glorious booty disappear? I used to be able to hold a pair of jeans up without a belt! WTH?)
That being said, I had a great day today with Dante. We went to see my friend's son's kindergarten graduation, and then went for pizza after. Dante was himself: Loud, funny, smart and gorgeous. He ate quite a bit of my tuna salad and some of his pizza, and he had a lot of fun showing off his alphabet skills. He flirted with one of our servers, and threw pizza dough all over the restaurant. Same old, same old. =D
I am a bit worried, though. I can't lie. I have this fear that Dante may feel neglected when his sister gets here. I remember when he was teeny tiny, and every waking (and sometimes sleeping) moment was spent on him. Granted, I have more experience this time, but there is only one of me. My husband is a hard worker who goes in early to make sure he's set up at work, and it's mostly just me here to make sure Dante is fed, dressed, clean and happy. While he has recently learned how to put his dishes in the sink (as opposed to the trash, which was really obnoxious there for a bit...) and he can sit and "read" a book or dance all by himself, I'm afraid he'll feel like he doesn't matter when I have a little girl who is even more helpless than he is. Having a younger brother, I know that feeling. I think that's why I loved sticking my nose in a book. I got to get out of the way while everyone doted on my little brother. I wouldn't be surprised if my mom told you (or me) that she would forget I existed because I would just sit in one place and read for hours, while my little bro would play loudly in the next room. Seeing how hard it was to make him eat ANYTHING, I ate what was put in front of me, for the most part. The only reason I wouldn't eat broccoli, per se, was just so they would remember I was there. I'm seriously afraid of how Dante is going to react when she shows up.
AND ANOTHER THING...names are eluding me. There are a lot of gorgeous names for girls, but so many are too popular (I don't want Little Miss to be one of 5 "Olivia's" for example) or too weird, or don't fit my insanely weird criteria. I want something off the beaten track, but not off the wall. I want to honor my best friend that passed, and/or one of the many great ladies I am lucky enough to be related to. I want one of her names to reflect her Hispanic heritage. I want it to flow with our last name. There are some names I just flat out refuse because people I don't like have that name. I'm stuck, and I hate it. With Dante, it was easy. When Hubby and I started dating, he told me he WILL have a son, and his name WILL BE Dante. That was it. His middle name was fun to find, after a friend suggested we go tongue in cheek and find a middle name that means "fire." (Get it? Dante's Inferno? BWAHAHAHA! Sad thing is, he's a spit fire, so it works!)
So, that's where my brain is right about now...Now I have to get us both dressed again so I can go get Tums, since I'm out. That's been my drug of choice as of late....

Whirlwind Weekend
Well...our weekends are Sunday and Monday. It's actually pretty cool.
Sunday, I went grocery shopping with Mindy, and had a blast! Long story short, I got almost $300 worth of groceries and a tank of gas for around $200. I'm a bad ass.
But while we were at King Soopers, I had Dante in one of those "cool" (and hard to maneuver) carts that has the car in the front so he could honk at oncoming traffic. He still wasn't a happy camper, so at around every other aisle, I'd try to placate him with apple chips (YUM!) and I prayed for the best. It wouldn't have been so bad if I didn't have Preggo Brain (I am still so proud of myself for remembering pants and shoes...) and I had to re-walk a few aisles. When we were almost done, Mindy and I noticed that he was no longer wearing socks or shoes, and they weren't in the car with him. In my shock, I said (a little loudly; oops!) WHERE ARE YOUR SHOES? And a passing employee asked if his socks and shoes had Elmo on them. Why, yes! Then he informed us that he found them and they were waiting at Customer Service for us. UGH! We got to the check out lane and while there, we noticed he was quiet. We looked, and he was LICKING A TRIAL BOTTLE OF HAIR CONDITIONER! We took it away, I wiped his tongue with my shirt and gave him juice. While I checked out, Mindy went and grabbed his socks and shoes from Customer Service and I actually banged my head on the counter. (Funny side note: The cashier said I was obviously an Extreme Couponing fan, and commended my skills. I giggled.)
When we got back, Dante was obviously in dire need for a nap, so I put him down. I hadn't gotten my Sunday papers yet, so I figured I'd go to Starbucks and pick up a couple, like I always do. But Starbucks downstairs closes at 7. I thought they didn't close 'til 8, and I got there at 755p. So I went to Burger King across the street and ordered a couple burgers for me and my love and got change to get the paper out of the machine. Grabbed my papers and ran home. (Well, I didn't literally run. That would have been unnecessary pain.)
I realized I was still exhausted, so I went down for a nap, and both Dante and I over slept. We woke up around 10, and I was to be fasting as of midnight for my 3 hour glucose screen the next day. So I inhaled some green enchiladas and guzzled some decaf tea, and at midnight, to entertain my brain, figured I'd do some laundry. Here's where it gets fun. As we were walking to the elevator so I could put money on our laundry card, I see a neighbor with her laundry basket head towards the laundry room. I KNOW she heard me tell Dante we were putting money on the laundry card.
We get back home, I load the hamper (only two loads! YAY!) and we roll it down to the laundry room. There are two washers and two dryers in there. When we got there, just one dryer was taken, nothing else, and there was 10 minutes left on the timer. I figured it was that snooty looking girl that we saw earlier, and she must know what little time was left, and threw our stuff in the washers. I go back 45 minutes later, and that dryer is still stuffed to the gills with formerly white socks. I was floored. So I threw one wet load in the dryer, and went home to wait and hope she figured out that her crap was there. Went back a few times, and finally just gave up and waited until the first hour was up and went back to fold the dry stuff and load the wet stuff. Yup. Socks were still there. So I waited that last hour and change, went back to fold and bring home that last load, and those socks were still in the other dryer. Seriously? Ugh.
In my anger, I wasn't able to fall asleep til almost 530am, and I had to be at my 3 hour glucose screen at 1010am. I wasn't going to get up until 9, so I could take care of a few other things, but my brain woke me up at 830a, so I got up and took a shower and just left early to run my errands. Got to the screening right on time and they saw the look in my eyes and sat me down to draw my fasting blood screen so we could get that show on the road. Then I got to drink a bottle of "lemon lime" flavored "drink" and sat down patiently. Approximately 20 minutes or so after I took it, I was treated to an internal Riverdance. The glucose apparently crossed the placenta and made my little girl feel the need to dance, and all of the folks in the waiting room got to see. It was VERY hard to miss. I sat and read a magazine and waited for the next draw, and it went quickly. Then, since I felt ok, they let me take a walk, so I went outside fro some fresh air and I ran into a friend, which made me happy!
But...as soon as I got back inside, I felt my blood sugar drop like a lead balloon. My head started spinning, and I couldn't keep my eyes open. But luckily, there was a flat surface for me to sleep on, and I used a blanket as a pillow. I got a whopping twenty minute nap, and I felt so much better afterwards! My phlebotomist woke me up for the 3rd of the 4 sticks and then I went for another walk and called my gramma. Shot the shit for a few with her and went back in and found an interesting issue of Time to, well, kill time, and before I knew it, it was time for my 4th and final blood draw. As soon as she was done, I hit the loo and then sat in the waiting room and made a ripe banana disappear. Got to the car and scarfed a BellyBliss bar and waited for a few to make sure it hit my system. Then I finished running my errands and called home to see how long Dante had been up. Turns out, he was still asleep! o.O
Ran to Little Ceaser's for a couple pizzas and went home. Fed my gorgeous boys, and tried to take a nap, but our room doesn't have a door. (It was designed that way, since there isn't a window.)
Got another 20 minutes or so, and we tried to put Dante down for a recharge nap, and he refused. He just played in his crib, I guess, while his dad and I got dressed. Then it was Dante's turn to get dressed and we dropped him at Kayla's and went to see Thor. I loved it, Hubby didn't. What mattered was that we got a little break and got to spend time together. I am still on Cloud 9!
Today, Dante and I went to see my bestie, which also makes me incredibly happy.
Tomorrow I get to call my doc's office and see if they got the results. I figure if they tell all those drug screen folk that it takes 24-48 hours, it must take about the same time to figure out if I am going to have to stab myself again. I'm nervous, but still optimistic considering how I felt my blood sugar dip.
And now I think I am going to finish my silly games that I play every night and get to bed. Sleep is good.

Tears of a Bat
What the hell?!?! I have been busting my ass! I have been eating like a granola crunching barefoot hippy and walking, and exercising....F***!!!!!
Today, in my state of neurosis, I decided that I would call and check and see if the results from my one hour glucose screen were in. Lo and f-ing behold, they were. My blood sugar was 152, and they like it at less than 135. So guess who gets to waddle over to Quest Diagnostics and get the 3 hour test? This pissed off Mama.
So I scheduled it for Monday at 10 in the gorram morning so I can just get it over with. I am so incredibly bummed. If it was possible for me to actually stain my cheeks with tears, I'd look like a weepy anime character. I am so hurt! I have worked so hard! With Dante, by 28/29 weeks, I was up 40 pounds, so I couldn't have been that surprised to get the gestational diabetes diagnosis. This time, I've gained a whopping 15 pounds and have been walking, eating right, and even dancing with Dante on a regular basis. I was so very much planning on beating the odds, simply with all my hard work. Apparently my body hates me. Which, I guess is fine. The feeling is mutual.
And now I am on hold with the lab (I need their fax number) and at first the hold song was Candy Everybody Wants by 10,000 Maniacs, and now I am forced to listen to Hall and Oats Kiss on My List bullcrap. I know I regularly want to pitch this pseudo smart phone at a wall, but this is about to do this phone in. Ugh. Insult, meet injury. Injury, insult. Are we all acquainted?
AAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGHHHHH! I am currently the definition of frustrated. There is nothing like elevated blood sugar to make me feel like a failure. Yes, I was overweight when Little Miss decided to begin her existence. I was working on it! I was well on my way to being a hot 160 by this most recent birthday, and instead I got to look at the scale just long enough to make sure I wasn't 250 again. But Life (and Death) happened, and now I am resting my phone on my belly, speaker phone blaring, waiting for these asshats to pick up. How hard is it to answer a ph...wait. THERE she is...and she transfered me without telling me and the message gave me the fax number before I was prepared.
Finally got it, and went to call the medical assistant back to give her the fax number, and I made the mistake of calling at 416pm when they stop taking calls at 415pm. So, since the number is written on my hand, let me put it here so I don't lose it. 3-899-6185
I don't feel well. I feel like a loser who can;t fu*king do anything right. I can't do this again, I just can't. How do I keep those gorram needles away from Dante? How do I explain to him that I have to stab myself with insulin? I know I'm jumping the gun, but I know my odds. I was trying so hard to beat them!
Now, I'm covered in snot and tears and I know I'm jumping the gun, but I can't help it. Nothing has been going right for me lately. Makes me wonder why I even bother getting up. Yes, I know, Dante. But on days like today, even that little baby bat can't help me.

Whole Wheat Pita and Cheetos
So, Dante woke up around 1230pm today, and we had a yummy breakfast of scrambled eggs and fried hot dogs (weird, but that's how Gramma got my little brother to eat eggs, and now it's Dante's turn.). And we watched some Sesame Street. Of course.
Got him dressed and took him over to my neighbor's apartment so she could watch him, and I took a couple organic Braeburn apples and a banana for Dante, and ran out the door. Grabbed some Starbucks and ran to my ultrasound appointment, hoping that if I got there early, they'd see me in a timely fashion. I hate when I'm wrong. My appointment was for 330pm, but they wanted me there at 315pm, so I got there at 310pm. That was worthless. I could have sat and read for a bit at Starbucks; instead I got to read "new parent" magazines in the lobby, while continuously glancing at the clock as my appointment time slipped away like low tide.
Finally was seen by the ultrasound tech (at 340p) and she apologized, since my chart wasn't even put up for her, so she had no idea I was waiting. Granted, she was busier than a one legged man in an ass kicking contest, but she obviously felt bad, so I did my best to hold my tongue. She got one good shot that is good enough for me to show on Facebook, and the rest look like a science experiment. She said they were great shots; exactly what my doc wanted, but all I saw was Alien vs. Predator. Oh, well. She also told me that this baby has a lot of hair, and she's right on track: 1 pound, 15 ounces and about a foot long. I am so stoked! I am sure that since I am so excited, I am going to have the longest 14 weeks of my life! LOL!
Came home, got Dante, and since my neighbor had to hit the Family Dollar downstairs, we made it a field trip and all went together, since I wanted cookies. Yeah, I know. Mama wants cookies, Mama gets cookies. And Dante wanted Cheetos. He had about a third of one of the apples I left for him and a slice of whole wheat pita, so a few Cheetos aren't going to kill him. Besides, I left him. And he behaved and listened. That warrants a treat!
But boy, oh boy was it nap time when we got back to our little bat cave! He was an angry little bugger! But I got to have a couple oatmeal cream pies (the devil, I tell you!) and I've been watching yesterday's episode of The Talk. Which I will discuss in another post.

An Upswing!
I'm very happy to report that Dante is doing much better. Sunday, we went to Albertson's for the stuff to make a focaccia pizza, and he was a little whiny, but as soon as our cashier handed him a "Thanks for Shopping" sticker, he was happy as a clam. So, then we went to the park so Hubby could have time to himself and Dante could get some much needed sunshine and exercise.
We wound up meeting this really nice stay at home mom (whose name eludes me right now!) and her cute 19 month old, Alex. Such a sweet little boy! Dante had so much fun playing with him, and their dog, Kali, and us Moms had a nice chat! My favorite part of this park trip, though, was when we left. Alex was buckled into his wagon, and I told Dante to give him a hug. Instead, Dante leaned over and gave him a kiss on the forehead! My heart melted like a sno-cone on an El Paso sidewalk in July! Every so often, I wonder if I'm doing an ok job, and Dante does something to remind me that I'm teaching him well!
Monday was one of those days that made me want to patiently wait out the waiting period so I can effectively assume a position on a bell tower. Dante woke up from a nightmare around 820 am, when I had to be up at 1030am for a doctor appointment. He finally went back to bed around 9 something and I actually rescheduled my appointment for 1115 instead of 1145, thinking I could get back early and nap.
Got to the appointment, it took less than ten minutes (she didn't even check my fundal height, which pissed me off, but at least I got to hear her heartbeat, which was at 140+ bpm). Then, to add insult to injury, Doc asked me to please schedule another ultrasound because at my 20 week scan, they didn't get very good pictures of her face and neck. Sure, no problem! So I head to the front, grab my nasty orange drink for the glucose screening next month, and then I got told one of the most horrible things I could be told: They don't have anyone on Mondays to do ultrasounds. My love has Sunday/Monday off. Then, without even asking me if it was ok, she just randomly scheduled me for next Wednesday at 330p. I was so pissed, I nearly ran lights and stop signs. So I stopped at 7-11 for a cup of coffee and a Cadbury egg. As I enjoyed that creamy bit of heaven, I threw in a mix cd that I made from some of the music my best friend Chris gave me, long before he passed away. (As in about 5 years ago!) So I was incredibly proud of myself for not having to pull over, like I was a grown up, listening to good, thumpy music. Then one song in particular came on, and luckily I was pulling into my garage, so I just let it go. It occurred to me that no matter how much I cry, how much I punch my steering wheel, he's still gone. I can bitch, moan, cry, doesn't matter. I can't stop listening to the music I love because it reminds me of him. I am beginning to think that it's not fair to him or his memory if I do something so incredibly stupid.
So I came upstairs and just vegged in front of the computer. I looked up ridiculous things just to waste time and make my brain feel useful. Then Dante woke up, and we went downstairs to see our neighbor and her son, F, and we had a blast. They were kind enough to bring some frozen organic yogurt in an ice cream cone for him, and Dante loved it! He ate it with his hands, and it was kinda gross, but he was so happy, I couldn't argue. He got covered in yogurt, and chalk, and he was an absolute mess, but the laughter that bellowed from his lips made me so incredibly happy! He ran, and played with those pull back and go kind of cars, and was just a little boy. Not sick, not tired, just thrilled to be alive, and it was contagious. And luckily, my dear neighbor offered to watch him next Wednesday so I don't have to take him to the ultrasound appointment. Whew! The boys get to play and I get to not worry about him destroying thousands of dollars of equipment while I'm stuck with cold goo on my belly. I'm just sad I have to miss seeing him play. I love the look on his face when he's enjoying himself, or learning. So gorgeous!
Every so often, when I think about everything that's wrong in the world, Dante reminds me that true happiness is squishing a banana between your fingers. Or doodling on yourself with a washable marker. Or singing the ABC's in silly voices. That little boy has been one of the greatest blessings anyone could ever ask for, and I am eternally grateful.

That's the word I was looking for!
SURREAL! I'm sitting here watching an episode of Deliver Me, and I know I only watch this schlock when I am pregnant, but one of the doctors asked a laboring mom if it felt surreal and it hit me! That's the word I have been looking for since I got the plus sign on a stick in December! Yikes!
Today was excellent, though! Woke up early, went to Target, got diapers, soap, some canned goods, all kinds of goodies on the cheap, then went to Albertson's to hit up a meat sale, and milk, too, and saved a ton there, too. As soon as I got home, I did the math between the two stores, and I saved over $100, which makes me feel like a champ! There were a lot of things I picked up that were niceties, as opposed to necessities (a new purse, a new wallet, cleaning stuff that was on sale and new sippy cups for Dante), but I saved more than enough to justify them, and still have cash for the flea market tomorrow! YAY! More chile! And Dante and I can snack on tamales again! I love that my little man loves tamales! Makes me happy on the inside!
After Dante got a short nap, we went downstairs to meet up with a neighbor and her two kids: Her son is 2, and her daughter is almost 5 months. I keep telling her she's contagious, since I got that plus sign right after she delivered! LOL! The boys had a blast hopping up and down in Starbucks, then we decided to pack up and head back to the patio off of our community room, and the boys drew all over with sidewalk chalk and chased each other. SO. MUCH. FUN!!! I love when I get to see that look on Dante's face; the one where if he somehow managed to be any happier, his head would explode.
After we had parted ways, I got a text from my neighbor, telling me that her son wanted to color with DAAAAAAAAANNNNTE again, and I giggled. Such a sweet family!
But Dante's up and I have chile dogs to make, so....This is your friendly neighborhood Mama Bat, signing off for the day! =D

Walking Brain Fart
I am a walking brain fart. I'll have my keys in my hand while I'm looking for them. That being said, I feel bad for not posting anything yet about my 20 week anatomy scan that took place this past Monday. It went great! I got some great pictures (14!) on a pretty disc, and I need to remember to walk to Walgreen's tomorrow to pick them up since I spaced it today. Baby is about 12 ounces, huge, and already a bully. I got to watch the little bugger punch me! Didn't feel it, but I saw it! LOL!
So, last night after my boys went to bed, I decided to take a shower and take my sweet time since I had the place to myself, essentially. I'm about to step in when my feet squish on the bath mat. Seems that SOMEHOW Dante's shampoo landed on it and leaked. Great. It was a big enough spot that I couldn't rinse it off in the sink. So I figured I'd share the shower with the damn rug to see if I could get it out, then I had planned on wringing it dry and letting it hang. After trying to wring it, I realized that it reeked! So I tiptoed out to the laundry room and washed it. Yeah. When I say I'm insane, I'm really not kidding. So I got to stay up while my bath rug and my kitchen rugs (What? Not gonna waste a load of laundry on ONE ITEM. That's not my way!) went through the wash. I wasn't going to dry them (especially the bath mat since it has a rubber back) but then I figured that may have been part of the reason for that smell. So I set the dryer on "Delicate" and waited patiently in this same spot. Mmmm, couch and laptop..... Anyways, I didn't get to bed til almost 4am.
But today, er, Wednesday, wasn't bad for the most part. Took Dante to Target for a few things that I knew were on sale (and that I had coupons for!) and priced out stuff for his party. Lo and behold, Target was too expensive for what I want, even with all my coupons, so it can wait til I get to Albertson's and King Soopers. Then we went for a cup of coffee with one of my dearest friends, Scott, so we could catch up and I could show him the ultrasound pics. While we were waiting for Scott to get there, Chris "Birdman" Anderson showed up with a friend and I realized from that vantage point that his head grazes the menu board. Next time you go to Starbucks, take a good look at the menu and imagine someone's head getting so close to hitting it that if you smelled that menu, you'd smell his hair products. Got to talk a little smack about the Spurs, and he had a fangirl all but throw her panties at him, and he booked it out of there like a bat out of hell. Can't blame him! (Of note, Denver won 115-112. Good.)
On a different note, I realized today that I have a lot of pet peeves. Enough that I could easily bitch about one a week and be set for a long, long time. I also realized that I could very easily write reviews from a tired mom's perspective about different activities and restaurants around the Denver Metro area. Let me know what you think! While yes, for the most part, this little piece of the blogosphere is for me, I also want to have little bursts of my brain farts around for Dante and the Impending Doom to reference when they are curious as to what my reaction might be to something.
And on that happy note, I think I am going to waddle over to my meds, waddle to the bathroom, and pray I don't kill myself on any of Dante's toys as I waddle to bed.
