Today was Day One of No Smoking. And both kids are still alive and well! Hell, my head doesn't even hurt that bad! I'm hoping it stays this easy! I'm incredibly proud of myself!
While I'm here, I have to write (for posterity's sake) what's been going on with Dante at night. He's taken to telling me before his lullabies that he Has to Talk to Me. Usually, it's about Spongebob, or Sesame Street, or Bob the Builder. Tonight, it was Super Why, and he gave me an elaborate story about how he and the characters went into a book and saved someone with the power of reading! I nearly choked, trying to keep the laughter on the inside! Then he told me that he and Bob the Builder were going to build him a teeny tiny house. I asked him "Will Scarlett live with you?" and he said "Yes, and Tita [abuelita, spanish for grandmother] and Santiago [his cousin], too!" So I asked, "Where will Mama and Daddy and Tia Paloma and Tio Steven [my in-laws, Santiago's parents] live?"
"Oh, the teeny tiny house is inside the big big house. Don't worry, Mama. I love you."
Seriously. That child is sheer, unadulterated magic. I love these kids. Freakin' amazing...
So I am going to play my games as quickly as I can so I can hop in the shower and then melt into bed. I'm fairly happy, but I may have to have more coffee to compensate for the lack of nicotine...

I hope...
I sincerely hope this is my last cigarette. I really am. Almost two months of Chantix, a whole lot of pep talk, and sheer fucking will oughtta do it. I'm not quitting for my health as much as I'm quitting for Dante, who has decided to start pretending to smoke. I hate it. I hate that he knows what a "smoke break" is. I'm also quitting because of the firmly held belief that if my bestest friend in the whole wide world had quit when he was my age, he could still fucking be here. (Please pardon all the French; I can't quite help it today...)
And in other news, since I have been meaning to post for a few months now, Scarlett wears a prosthetic helmet. Her flat head was beginning to become an issue, not just on the squishiness of her face, but her doc and her physical therapist were afraid her optic nerve would get pinched, along with a host of other problems. So, now she has a helmet with hearts all over it.
Oi. For those that weren't paying attention, I got a new van for my birthday after my Subaru (bless her tired soul) gave me the finger in a way even I found obscene. So now I have a minivan. (Sigh.) Said minivan decided on Sunday that she was going to pout and not start when I was trying to go get breakfast burritos for us. Well, that didn't work, and I was stuck at 7-11 with me and Dante until Hubby came and rescued him while I waited for a tow. Yeah. So now I am waiting for the mobile mechanic to get his bum this way in traditional Denver rush hour traffic so I can get my car out of one of the dentist's parking spots.
Not too much is going on. Next week, I get to go to a dear friend's wedding, and I'm taking Scarlett for her 1 year pictures and getting Dante some school clothes at JCPenney. Not so much because I love what they have; I just really love how they keep featuring gay couples in their advertising. Gotta support what you believe in! (One of my soapboxes!)
I am REALLY looking forward to Dante going to school. I think we are both getting tired of each other. But that's another post, for another day. If I can remember I have this thing. =P
(Oh, and whomever said that it gets easier to function after a friends death with time can go fuck themselves. I miss him more and more every day, and there aren't enough pills on the face of the earth that can help. Just sayin'.)

Happy Feet!
I'll post the song for the day later. Right now, I have to write about how gorgeous my son is. (Sick of me yet?)
He was wide awake at 2-3 am, yelling the alphabet at the top of his lungs. I didn't have the heart to go in there and let him know that he'd get to sing it at his Toe Tappin' Toddler class.
Got him and Scarlett up and hauled butt to class. We ran into our friends that got us hooked (ENABLERS! ENABLERS! Lol!) and then Dante took the stairs like a champ and took his shoes off. He then ran into the classroom and started flirting with the two little girls that came in after us. We sang a few songs, Dante got to strum the auto harp, bang on a drum, play with a parachute and balls and bubbles...he's now an addict! He even got to strum his instructors' guitar when we sang the goodbye song! It blows my mind how his mind works. He was attentive, charming, sweet...he really came close to getting my heart to beat out of my chest.
And my some odd miracle, Scarlett slept through the whole class! She slept all the way to my besties house!
Once we got to my besties house, I plopped Dante down in front of the chicken nuggets he requested and I got a little downtime. All in all, this was an awesome day!
Now I get to try and figure out what headspace I'm in and find a song for today....

My Heart Hurts
Today, Dante fell off the swings. I have no idea how he got up to the swing, how he was sitting, or how he fell off. I was feeding Scarlett and had looked away. All I know is that my son landed on his back, and I was afraid he'd bitten his tongue.
I opened my own mouth wide, demonstrating how I needed him to do it so I could see his tongue, and he licked my face. I squeezed him so hard, his eyeballs should have popped out like a cartoon.
When I met Chris (my friend that passed last year, for those just catching up), he licked my face. Every time I got wound up about something and he needed to break tension, he'd lick my face. I've seen him do it to a few people, and I know he did it to unnerve them. If they can handle some random wack-job licking their face, they were bound to get on famously. (Part of me will always contend he liked the taste of make up....)
You can imagine my shock and my heartbreak when my son, that never met him, licked my face like my best friend used to. If we can assume that time heals and I have a scab on my heart, that just ripped it off. What hurts so bad, what really ripped that scab off, was the glaring fact that my son (and daughter) will never meet him. He was fond of saying that he corrupted kids, and I really wish my kids had the chance to get to know him, to be as corrupted as a few other kids have been so privileged. That little nugget of truth is bearing its weight on my chest, and I am still figuring out how to breathe despite it.
I miss him. I miss him every day, to a varying degree. Some days, it's the fly on the wall that I can't seem to smack with a fly swatter. Other days, like today, it's the freight train bearing down on me so fast and so loud, it seems like it could just crush me.
And I must admit I am exceptionally selfish when I think about how much I miss him. I may wax poetic about how it's not fair that my kids won't know him, but what goes unsaid is how incredibly unfair it is that I don't get to talk to him again, or give him another hug, or have lunch at Los Cuates with him again. I am incredibly greedy with my memories. I have found a way to block out others from all the times we hung out and just focus my brain on him and how lucky *I* was to have him, if only for 14 or so years.
But I have to pick my chin up. And my kids (they just woke up). I know I can't, or shouldn't, let this wound immobilize me, even if all I want to do is crawl into bed and cry.

Invincibility or Motherhood?
I sometimes wonder if there is some secret fuel that only mothers can live off of. Are toddler hugs a source of energy? Maybe it's diaper changing that refuels me like I stuck a power cord in my skull. I guess the world will never know...
Today, er...yesterday for you day walkers, my friend took Dante, Scarlett and me to a music class. Part of my brain went directly to "Oh, my goth. What would 18 year old me say if she saw me now?" And the other part went "Holy crap, my son is stinkin' cute!" The stinkin' cute bit won, and I am willing to sacrifice and recharge off magic spit up fuel if that's what it takes to get Dante in a music class 2 times a month. I need to ask the teacher if I can take pictures, since his happy face is a smile that could launch an entire armada.
Speaking of happy faces, my friend in Montana (there's only one. Maybe if I ever get up there I can make a few more...) decided to make me a happy camper and sent a care package! I not only got a cool Scentsy disc (cinnamon! YAY!), but she sent Scarlett a gorgeous outfit that should fit next summer with the way she eats, a couple of gorgeous bibs she embroidered, and Dante got a bad ass chalk and bubbles set! He was so excited, I thought his head was going to explode! (Excitement aside, if you decide you want some cool Scentsy stuff, I will get you her info. If you are in Billings and need an awesome cut and color, same gorgeous gal. Let me know. =D)
On the agenda for today: Lunch with a friend, assuming she gets back to me...I texted pretty late because I'm a space cadet, a trip to Albertson's with my binder (and the kids, since the nanny has the decade off) and then dinner with another good friend and her gorgeous kiddos.
I sometimes wonder if I spread myself too thin, but then I remember that I am a lucky be-otch. I have wonderful friends, a fantastic husband, gorgeous kids and two legs that work. I am luckier than a lot of people. Sure, I'm pudgy (thanks, Scarlett! LOL!) and I'm hundreds of miles from my family, and not too easy on the eyes, even when I'm emaciated (I got the pictures to prove it!), but dammit, I'm happy, even if I am an insomniac and always short on cash. I think what saves me most days is my optimism. Maybe that's my super power, my fuel. Other people would have crumbled with the last year I've had, and yet I'm not just treading water, I'm swimming when I don't even know how to swim.
What I'm getting at, is that even though we don't have a lot, I like going out and seeing the people that matter. In the end, when I am on my deathbed (hopefully it'll be as cool as Frida's), I'll be able to look back at all the memories and experiences and just...go. I'll have few regrets and a couple of gorgeous kids happily pulling the plug knowing I'm done. I've lived my life to as full as I could make it, exhaustion be damned. I don't know how many days I have left, and I am going to cram them all as full as I can....

*drum roll please*
Introducing...
Scarlett Adele!
After I cleaned that Monday, I noticed my contractions were getting stronger. So I cleaned my car, made dinner, made sure all my bags were packed, watched some Craig Ferguson and drove myself to the hospital.
Got there around 2am. I had texted my friend Kayla earlier, and around 230 she got back to me and told me she had the next day off, and then I told her where I was. She offered to come hang out with me, and I am still incredibly grateful. We watched tv, listened to music, wandered the halls, and shot the shit.
At one point, my nurses wanted to send me home because they didn't think I was progressing all that fast, so to try to move it along, I took a soak in the jacuzzi tub. For the record, as I soaked my way through a few contractions, I wrote a mental letter to Santa, begging for one of these to call my own.
After my soak, they checked me again, did their best to, uh...stretch the area a bit, and the next thing I knew, it was 7am and my doc was there, repeating the process. She asked if I was against breaking my water like I was against meds, and I told her to go for it, but I had to call my husband first. Called Hubby and asked him to please get Dante ready since they were going to break my water, and he agreed to put some spring in his step.
The instrument that resembled a knitting hook was brandished, and then my Little Miss told me she was DONE. Seconds after the proverbial floods appeared, and that was IT. At first I yelled that I was a pansy and that was it. I am fairly certain I called myself a panty waisted bitch and a weakling. I may have actually lifted myself from the bed by the strength in my arms alone.
I declared at the top of my lungs that THIS WAS IT, NO F-ING KIDDING and my room became a whirlwind. I had asked for the mirror so I could see what was going on, but by the time that poor nurse set it up, they were placing this gorgeous string bean on my chest. I think I had two "bad" pushes and 3 that actually worked. That was it. My perfect little sweetheart was born at 744am on July 26th, and was 7lb., 12.3 oz and 20 1/2 inches long. So at 745, I called Hubby and told him to take his sweet time. He and Dante missed the excitement.
I was really lucky that Kayla was there. She took pictures, helped keep my head straight, and totally cheered me on when I thought I wasn't going to be able to do it. I love that I have such awesome friends!
I actually felt pretty awesome when it was over. I was so very proud of myself. Yes, I cried like a sissy and had two terrible pushes that didn't do a damn thing but piss off both me and Scarlett, but that's ok. I still think it's funny that she didn't get the common "cone-head" look because she wanted out so bad! LOL!
When Hubby and Dante got there, Dante was so excited to see that his new little sister got him an Elmo backpack. He was not really interested in the baby, but was a little confused as to why I wasn't at home with him. I will swear until I take my last breath that Dante grew a couple inches and gained a couple pounds during my short stint at the hospital, though.
Hubby and Dante spent some time at the hospital, but for the most part, they left me alone so I could try to get my bearings. I really appreciated that. Only a handful of friends came to visit, and for that I am grateful, too. I really wanted to be left alone so I could just stare at her. And attempt to feed her. And wrap my brain around where I am now. There were people when I needed them and for the most part, I was left to my own devices. I only really saw the nurses when I needed meds, and I saw the kind folks from room service a few times. I had a nurse take Scarlett to the nursery while I showered, and at one point, I got tea service, which I thought was nice.
Now, about her name. When I left home to drive myself to the hospital, Hubby found the name Indigo and totally had his heart set on it. I gave up and agreed, then left. Not just Indigo, but INDIGO MOON. I thought it was waaaaaaaay too hippy dippy for my taste, but I thought maybe I'd meet her and like it.
I didn't. And then when I told my Gramma, she yelled at me. Not just a raised voice, which I have heard from her a few times in my 32 years, but a yell like I was about to hit her with my car. I had never heard that tone of voice, in that volume, escape my grandmother's lips. And I agreed.
So I voiced my concerns with that name to Hubby, and after some thought, we liked Scarlett. It fit, since she had these precious red pigment marks on her eyelids. The nurse in the nursery called them "angel kisses." And to top it off, every time she fussed, she turned this gorgeous scarlet color. Adele we agreed upon after an intense search for a name that works with our last name, sounded good with her first name, and had a meaning I could stand behind. I thought about it, and looked for names that mean "noble" for two reasons. 1) Dante's middle name, Xipil, means "noble, of fire" and 2) If there was ever a trait that sums up my best friend that passed away with one succinct word, it's Noble. Adele means "noble."
So I filled out the birth certificate form, and as soon as I handed it to a nurse, I realized there are two celebrities that bear those names: Scarlett Johanssen, the stunningly gorgeous actress, and Adele, the singer that has a voice like buttah.
Screw it. Both women are incredibly beautiful and talented. =P
Wednesday afternoon, the doc that was on call since mine had the day off told me that I could leave that day if I so chose. Thinking about how much I really didn't like being waited on, and how angry the lactation consultants made me, and my desire to be home with my family, I hopped at the chance. But since I drove myself to the hospital, I wanted to drive home. They did a quick check, found that I hadn't had a percocet in hours, watched me walk, and let me go. I just had to have a CNA escort me to my car. No biggie. I was just thrilled to be going home with my new little girl.
We spent a few days with my mom and step dad while they were in town, and Dante had a lot of fun getting to spend time with them! I had a rough first few days getting used to changing such tiny diapers, putting tiny clothes on a tiny little girl, but we're hitting our groove. We don't do a whole lot anymore, but I love where we are now. I love my kids so much, it almost scares me if I let it. I really had no idea how much I could love two kids. And I have two gorgeous, precious kiddos!

And I have two gorgeous, precious kiddos!

Squishy Pondering Face
I think Dante is hitting a "difficult" stage. I hate saying it, since it might tempt the Universe, but he's been quite testy lately. Monday night, I had 4 mini donuts, and I was kind enough to give him one. When I wouldn't hand over another, he threw himself on the ground and had a Hissy to end all Hissies. I flat out refused, and he was grumpy for at least another ten minutes.
Today, (er, Tuesday), we went to see my best friend. He got angry if I locked him out of the kitchen, and threw a couple more tantrums that made me wonder what's going on in his head! I have been trying for awhile to not give in to his every whim, yet still show him that he's my Universe. Earlier tonight (or last night, since I haven't slept yet and you probably have) he threw himself on the ground and cried for FIFTEEN minutes because I gave him milk instead of juice. Seriously. Then, once he was thirsty, guess what he drank? You guessed it - his milk.
I am not quite sure what is going on in his melon or how to address it. It's very weird for him, yet common according to what I've been reading. I can't just give him whatever he wants! The last thing I (or the rest of the world, for that matter) need(s) is a kid who thinks he's entitled to whatever he wants, whenever he wants. The world doesn't work like that. But his cries and pleas are so gut-wrenching, I'd hate if he pulls that in public, for one. It physically pains me to have him behave like this.
Usually when he gets upset in public, it's because I get a good grip on his hand and wrist when we walk through a crowded parking lot and he wants to run free. If people are around, I joke that I'm a big meanie for wanting to make sure he doesn't get flattened by a Colorado driver. And most people who see and hear it smile and that's the end of it. But what do I do if he's in the cart at Target and he wants every Elmo item he sees? He'll throw his sippy cup, or take off his shoes and throw them, and I'm left feeling (and looking) like the bad guy.
Oh, well. In other "news," this hiatal hernia is getting worse, thanks to there being less room for Little Miss to stretch out. Who needs breath mints when the Drug Gods invented Tums? Bending over is now more of a serious issue since every time I do, it feels like she's trying to escape via belly button. Which stinks since the veggie drawer is on the bottom of the fridge. And that's where I have been hiding the broccoli, the grapes and the green chile - my three main vices. Sigh.
On a brighter note, I am very much looking forward to my baby shower this Saturday. I can't wait to see some of my favorite people! That in and of itself is the best part! I'm pretty lucky in the friend department! I've got some great people on my team, and that means more to me than anything else. I may not have money, but I am rich in the friend department, and that is much more rewarding.
Considering it's about 430am, I think I need to at least TRY to sleep. Especially since our fantastic maintenance guy, Hector, was able to fix our AC. That man deserves Sainthood when you take into account not only his handyman and cleaning skills, but the amount of crap he puts up with and never complains. I've seen what some of the idiots in this building have done to it, and he just shakes his head, figures out what needs to be done, and does it. I wish there were more people like him in the world.
Anyways, good night! Or good morning. You know who you are. ;)

Naked Swim Time!
Today was a BLAST! Dante and I went to go pick up Mindy and then the 3 of us went to Sunflower Market and we picked out a ton of fresh fruit and veggies, and I got a great deal on chicken, and I even picked up a little carton of coconut water. On our way out of the store, he insisted on tasting the coconut water...he slurped at it like a dehydrated man trapped on a deserted island! So I filled his sippy cup, and we took a 7 minute drive (tops) to K&G and by the time we got there, that cup was drained! I parked in front of K&G (had to get Hubby a new belt) and I saw Little Anita's and had to go in for at least a bowl of posole. And Dante said he wanted food in his belly, so off we went! He was so happy I got him his own "small" (20+ oz) glass of horchata and he loved his quesadilla and beans and rice! Am I weird? I love watching my son eat. When he wants to, he'll go at it with such a reckless abandon, it warms my heart. Everyone should love and live the way this little boy does!
After I got Hubby's new belt, us Musketeers went to Albertson's for the bad ass sales they had going on! More blueberries! Milk! Such amazing prices! Ah, I love saving money.
Took Mindy home and came back home to put all those groceries away. As soon as the groceries were put away, we went downstairs to meet up with our neighbors and she brought her kiddie pool, and two 5 gallon jugs of water. I had Dante in a swim diaper and a basketball shirt and short set, but not for long....
After he was in the pool for a little bit, he took off his shorts. Then he lifted up his shirt and came at me with his hands up, so I took off his shirt. I figured it wasn't a big deal for him to be in just his swim diaper...until he took that off, too. Oi. So I had a naked baby running all over the patio, squealing like I would had we just won the lottery. He was thrilled to be naked and free as a bird. Again, I truly believe we should all live the way my son does. He enjoys every second he's given, and I hope he never outgrows that!
He's currently out for a nap (*WHEW!*) and I have dinner to make. I just had to share my little bit of joy today. I am such a lucky little b-otch. I don't know what I did right to get such an awesome little boy, but I hope I keep it up!

Didn't See THAT coming...
Today was too gorgeous to waste. After our nap, Dante and I went for a walk to get some sandwich bread and we had some fun while we were at it.
First, we went to 7-11 so I could grab a bottle of water, and then I noticed that Sugar Bake Shop was finally open! So I stopped in and got a couple cookies (one for Dante, one for me!) and they were DELICIOUS! We continued our journey to Walgreens, picked up some bread and I sneaked a new box of sidewalk chalk into the basket.
On the way back, I figured it was downright rude of me to get cookies for Dante and me and not get something for the Love of My Life. So I grabbed him a beef empanada from Sugar Bake Shop on the way back.
Got back to our building and took Dante to the community room so he could run around the patio for a bit and let some steam off. Plus, this way we got to play with his chalk and new bubble wand. Here is where I made my mistake. I decided to be nice and text Dante's former stalker and invited her out on the patio to join us. She said she'd be a few minutes and was there in a flash. She told me she was going to change (she was in pj shorts and a t shirt) but figured she'd come see us. Oi. Word to the wise, ladies. If you are going to go out and visit with a toddler and his mom, please be so kind as to wear underpants under your short shorts. PLEASE?! *shudder* *shudder again*
We got home, and Hubby wanted to make a quick shopping run and grab a quick dinner. So we went, hit Del Taco, and came home. It was awesome!
Now it's almost time for bed...Aside from the Underpants Snafu, if was a great day!
I have my 30 week appointment on Tuesday, and I am fairly certain I will have to take Dante with me. I'll post all about it as soon as we get back! LOL!

Whirlwind Weekend
Well...our weekends are Sunday and Monday. It's actually pretty cool.
Sunday, I went grocery shopping with Mindy, and had a blast! Long story short, I got almost $300 worth of groceries and a tank of gas for around $200. I'm a bad ass.
But while we were at King Soopers, I had Dante in one of those "cool" (and hard to maneuver) carts that has the car in the front so he could honk at oncoming traffic. He still wasn't a happy camper, so at around every other aisle, I'd try to placate him with apple chips (YUM!) and I prayed for the best. It wouldn't have been so bad if I didn't have Preggo Brain (I am still so proud of myself for remembering pants and shoes...) and I had to re-walk a few aisles. When we were almost done, Mindy and I noticed that he was no longer wearing socks or shoes, and they weren't in the car with him. In my shock, I said (a little loudly; oops!) WHERE ARE YOUR SHOES? And a passing employee asked if his socks and shoes had Elmo on them. Why, yes! Then he informed us that he found them and they were waiting at Customer Service for us. UGH! We got to the check out lane and while there, we noticed he was quiet. We looked, and he was LICKING A TRIAL BOTTLE OF HAIR CONDITIONER! We took it away, I wiped his tongue with my shirt and gave him juice. While I checked out, Mindy went and grabbed his socks and shoes from Customer Service and I actually banged my head on the counter. (Funny side note: The cashier said I was obviously an Extreme Couponing fan, and commended my skills. I giggled.)
When we got back, Dante was obviously in dire need for a nap, so I put him down. I hadn't gotten my Sunday papers yet, so I figured I'd go to Starbucks and pick up a couple, like I always do. But Starbucks downstairs closes at 7. I thought they didn't close 'til 8, and I got there at 755p. So I went to Burger King across the street and ordered a couple burgers for me and my love and got change to get the paper out of the machine. Grabbed my papers and ran home. (Well, I didn't literally run. That would have been unnecessary pain.)
I realized I was still exhausted, so I went down for a nap, and both Dante and I over slept. We woke up around 10, and I was to be fasting as of midnight for my 3 hour glucose screen the next day. So I inhaled some green enchiladas and guzzled some decaf tea, and at midnight, to entertain my brain, figured I'd do some laundry. Here's where it gets fun. As we were walking to the elevator so I could put money on our laundry card, I see a neighbor with her laundry basket head towards the laundry room. I KNOW she heard me tell Dante we were putting money on the laundry card.
We get back home, I load the hamper (only two loads! YAY!) and we roll it down to the laundry room. There are two washers and two dryers in there. When we got there, just one dryer was taken, nothing else, and there was 10 minutes left on the timer. I figured it was that snooty looking girl that we saw earlier, and she must know what little time was left, and threw our stuff in the washers. I go back 45 minutes later, and that dryer is still stuffed to the gills with formerly white socks. I was floored. So I threw one wet load in the dryer, and went home to wait and hope she figured out that her crap was there. Went back a few times, and finally just gave up and waited until the first hour was up and went back to fold the dry stuff and load the wet stuff. Yup. Socks were still there. So I waited that last hour and change, went back to fold and bring home that last load, and those socks were still in the other dryer. Seriously? Ugh.
In my anger, I wasn't able to fall asleep til almost 530am, and I had to be at my 3 hour glucose screen at 1010am. I wasn't going to get up until 9, so I could take care of a few other things, but my brain woke me up at 830a, so I got up and took a shower and just left early to run my errands. Got to the screening right on time and they saw the look in my eyes and sat me down to draw my fasting blood screen so we could get that show on the road. Then I got to drink a bottle of "lemon lime" flavored "drink" and sat down patiently. Approximately 20 minutes or so after I took it, I was treated to an internal Riverdance. The glucose apparently crossed the placenta and made my little girl feel the need to dance, and all of the folks in the waiting room got to see. It was VERY hard to miss. I sat and read a magazine and waited for the next draw, and it went quickly. Then, since I felt ok, they let me take a walk, so I went outside fro some fresh air and I ran into a friend, which made me happy!
But...as soon as I got back inside, I felt my blood sugar drop like a lead balloon. My head started spinning, and I couldn't keep my eyes open. But luckily, there was a flat surface for me to sleep on, and I used a blanket as a pillow. I got a whopping twenty minute nap, and I felt so much better afterwards! My phlebotomist woke me up for the 3rd of the 4 sticks and then I went for another walk and called my gramma. Shot the shit for a few with her and went back in and found an interesting issue of Time to, well, kill time, and before I knew it, it was time for my 4th and final blood draw. As soon as she was done, I hit the loo and then sat in the waiting room and made a ripe banana disappear. Got to the car and scarfed a BellyBliss bar and waited for a few to make sure it hit my system. Then I finished running my errands and called home to see how long Dante had been up. Turns out, he was still asleep! o.O
Ran to Little Ceaser's for a couple pizzas and went home. Fed my gorgeous boys, and tried to take a nap, but our room doesn't have a door. (It was designed that way, since there isn't a window.)
Got another 20 minutes or so, and we tried to put Dante down for a recharge nap, and he refused. He just played in his crib, I guess, while his dad and I got dressed. Then it was Dante's turn to get dressed and we dropped him at Kayla's and went to see Thor. I loved it, Hubby didn't. What mattered was that we got a little break and got to spend time together. I am still on Cloud 9!
Today, Dante and I went to see my bestie, which also makes me incredibly happy.
Tomorrow I get to call my doc's office and see if they got the results. I figure if they tell all those drug screen folk that it takes 24-48 hours, it must take about the same time to figure out if I am going to have to stab myself again. I'm nervous, but still optimistic considering how I felt my blood sugar dip.
And now I think I am going to finish my silly games that I play every night and get to bed. Sleep is good.

One of THOSE Days...
So, last night, we put Dante to bed late, as in 1245am. Then the love of my life went to bed around 2. So after he was asleep, I turned on a light and got to work, organizing coupons, lists and getting the right coupons for 4 different stores together. Then I played my games on Facebook and was ready for bed at 630am. Yeah, I know. So, I hit the loo in anticipation of about 6 hours sleep when I hear Dante screaming like no other. He was screaming like Jack the Ripper and Freddy Krueger just appeared in his room and only I could save him.
So I go in, rock him into a near coma like state, and put him back. At this point, he woke up screaming for me. So I took my pills, grabbed my pillows and hunkered down on the spare bed with my darling son.
And wouldn't you know it, he was not in the mood for cuddling. He wanted me there, but as soon as I'd almost be asleep, he'd turn like he was on a rotisserie. Finally, after about 45 minutes of this, I put him back in his crib and just listened to him cry as I made myself a bowl of the chili we had for dinner and watched some news. He was out cold in 10 minutes. Grrr....
Got my love up at 10, and passed back out. I got a kiss when he left at noon, and I woke up at 1, and so did Dante.
You can imagine how my brain has been NOT functioning today. I did manage an awesome trip to Safeway (spent $45 on $90 worth of stuff!) and had a half caff Americano with a friend. But the fact I managed to remember to put on pants amazes me. Who knew? Maybe I'm not all crazy....
So I think I am going to defrost some chicken and make some mashed potatoes so I can keep up with all the carbs they want me to eat before my 3 hour test on Monday. (*SARCASM*) Yipppeeeeeee.
=P

What I should have said...
I will start at the beginning, since that seems to be the best place for most stories (but not all) to start. I had penciled in today to hang out with my friend Jason, whom I haven't seen since Dante's birthday party, and that's a stretch, since I was playing hostess. So we met up here and went to Little Anita's. Sure, some of you in ABQ may make fun of me, but it's the closest taste of home that I have.
So we had a great lunch, and then, since it's raining, we went to Barnes and Noble to take a look around and get Dante a new book. We had the privilege of listening to a group of young musicians that were armed with a violin and a couple cellos, and Dante danced! He was very excited! (So was I, to be honest!)
So I got him a new $5 book, and then we decided it would be best to get home and hit the Starbucks here so I could then put Dante down for his nap, and it got us away from the temptation that IS Barnes and Noble.
We ordered our coffee, and sat down. Dante decided that it was too close to naptime to be trusted, so I put him in his stroller. He then decided that he was going to yell MAMA at the top of his lungs, and I tried to turn it into a game. Finally, after Jason finished his coffee, Dante's whining was hitting a fever pitch, and I was getting our stuff together to go. As I was winding down our conversation, this rude woman decided to ask if we could leave. She proceeded to tell me (essentially) that her work was more important than my visit with my friend. My knee jerk response was to apologize for her homelessness, since she obviously had nowhere else to go, and then she informed me that she didn't have kids for a reason. My response? Thank the gods, since only they know how horribly her children would be treated. Then, as a parting shot when we left, I said goodbye to one of my favorite baristas, then walked out saying "Bye, raving bitch!"
So then Jason and I went outside and made fun of her and simultaneously pitied her. That poor woman will probably wait until she's unable to have kids to finally decide she wants them, and it would be a recreation of Idiocracy, if it weren't for mine and my husbands decision to have kids.
In short, here is the diatribe I wish I would have said:
I am so sorry that my visit with a friend I rarely see is less important than you finding the cure for hangnails. I am also very sorry that you don't have the glorious, unconditional love that this child gives me every day. I am very sorry that you don't get to rediscover the magic of markers and construction paper. I can't imagine living without my son's sloppy kisses, or his dancing, or the overwhelming peace that washes over me when he rests his gorgeous head on my shoulder. It's probably a good thing you don't have children, since they require love, attention, and patience. They require you to set aside trivial things that you enjoy for trivial things they enjoy. I would love the opportunity to sit at a Starbucks on a gloomy day and judge others in peace and quiet, but instead I get to be judged by a woman who will probably never enjoy the magic of bubbles or the joy of watching a two year old dance to the Sesame Street theme song. So get on with your important work, while I get on with mine.

Comic Books, Blizzards and Dirt, Oh My!
Today started like any other day. Got up, got Dante out of his crib, made us some chicken nuggets so we could eat "breakfast" with Elmo. Then we got dressed and hit Mile High Comics for Free Comic Book Day. So Dante got a Kung Fu Panda comic and a Young Justice comic, and I got my brother his birthday present. Bought an extra board so I can send it to him safely. Since we had our friend Daniel with us, we went to Dairy Queen, and Dante got his very first Blizzard. We split a German Chocolate Cake Blizzard, and holy smokes, it was GOOD!
Then the three of us hit up Congress Park, and I was less than thrilled to learn that there was a birthday party going on. It wouldn't have been so bad, had the kids running and screaming had even the slightest sense of decorum or manners. They were playing tag, and were knocking Dante over at every opportunity! A couple of them even had the gall to grab my ass when they were running around me. These hooligans were climbing on top of the covered slide, shoving Dante out of the way when he would finally get to the top to ride either slide, some were throwing dirt...it was madness! At one point, all ANYONE could hear for at least a couple blocks was one of the moms yelling! "Neveah, Denisha, where are yo' shoes? Jumal, Deshawn, don't you throw sand!" And it was just crazy. I couldn't believe how incredibly rude these kids were. I will NEVER get over that. One of the little girls was really nice to Dante and tried to help him, which I am grateful for, but it was mind boggling. One of those little boys, whom I've NEVER SEEN BEFORE IN MY LIFE just trusted me to pick him up and help him get on the monkey bars. I am flabbergasted!
At one point, the bigger kids that were making it hell around the jungle gym made their way to the soccer field, so the smaller kids finally had run of the place. So I got a few great shots of Dante playing peacefully, and he got to play with another little boy about his size and age, and it was fun.
So we got home and Dante took one of the boards I got to send my brother's birthday gift and he drew all over it, getting marker all over himself and getting himself even more dirty. (He needs a soak like you wouldn't believe!)
So now I get to get dinner going, get some dishes going, and then I can soak him like a dirty dish! It was such an amazing, mostly unplanned day. I am so incredibly happy! Sore, but happy! I will never, ever forget the looks I got from Dante today. The joyful, happy looks that make every day fantastic! I really do love being Dante's mama bat!
Well...
I have been meaning to get back to writing. I meant to write a bit about the royal wedding and why I cried (that's Diana's baby boy!) and the killing of our Public Enemy Number One, but today trumps all that. For me, at least.
Dante woke up at 845am. Nothing says "FU*K YOU* to an insomniac pregnant lady like less than 6 hours of sleep. So I got up, made us French toast (which sucks with the sandwich bread we have, but better than nothing) and got him fed and changed, wore him out and put him back to bed by 1030am. He was up at 130pm, and I figured I'd check with our neighbor and see what they were up to, but she was putting F down for a nap. An hour later, I got a text asking if we wanted to meet in the community room downstairs for a play date. Got us dressed and headed downstairs with Dante's trike and his Elmo plane and the chalk, just in case the weather agreed with us. So we had fun, T and I chatting while Dante and F had fun with each other's toys, and after a couple hours, we were winding down when I see Dante hugging F near a corner and they were looking a little clumsy, so I was moving to get up when the boys SLAMMED into the corner. I didn't know I was still capable of flying, but apparently I am. I do not recall either mine or T's feet touching ground, and we got there the split second the crying started. Dante wasn't bleeding, but....F was. He had a gash in the middle of his gorgeous porcelain forehead! *cries*
So T gets him and her baby girl to the elevator, and I went back for my keys and Dante was still crying. I knocked on Dante's former stalker's door, since she's on the 4th floor, too, and asked if she could please watch our stuff while I ran downstairs in case I needed to find a way to get all three kids and another adult into my car. So I got downstairs, and F had just calmed down, when we called T's husband and asked how far he was. I may have accidentally freaked him out more than was necessary, but he got there in a flash! While we were waiting for him, Dante had a panic attack that was probably because he was past the need for a nap. Then I asked if her hubby had the baby's car seat in the car, and she handed me the baby and went with F upstairs to get baby's seat. Baby was not happy about being left with me, but her daddy got there while T went for her seat, and she was still not happy. But they ran off to get F stitched up, and I went to Former Stalker's to get all our stuff, and I brought it back up to my place. Took a couple trips, but at least I know nothing got stolen.
Dante was INCONSOLABLE when we got home. I wanted to get a banana or something into him so he'd sleep better (nothing says awesome sleep quite like a full belly!) but he wasn't eating it, he was just crying like I poked him with a red hot poker. So I got him changed, and rocked him back to calm. Then, as soon as I put him down, oh, gods, he was screaming! So I just let him cry it out, and he was out cold in less than 5 minutes. Just got the text that F is fine and now I feel much better as a person. I am so very glad! We were surprisingly calm as a team, and I'm very impressed.
So, now I am going to find something yummy (I've earned it! LOL!) and let my brain wander in front of the boob tube. Wow. What a day!

An Interesting Topic (or Two)
AKA: This might require some opinions from y'all.
If you know me, you know I am one of the least judgmental people in the world. Kinda. I try really hard to see other people's points of view, and (especially when it comes to parenting) I know that what works for me won't work for you and so on. I've done (and do) things with Dante that others find weird, and I'm sure you do stuff that would make my skin crawl.
That being said, do you kiss your kids on the lips? If you are friends with me on Facebook, you can take a quick glance at my profile picture and know that I do. Dante doesn't pucker, he sticks out his lower lip like he's giving me an exaggerated frown, and it's so cute, I have to kiss it. I can't help it! Dante will run up to me with his lower lip sticking out and if I was to try to stop myself from kissing that, I'd probably pass out. He'll kiss my belly, he pokes my eyes, honks my nose, dings the top of my head...I am trying really hard to appreciate every moment I get with him while he still likes me! I know there will be a time when I will be lucky to get a wave or the half hug, so every kiss is downright precious to me. Plus, soon I will be elbow deep in breast feeding stuff and even more laundry, and binkies and another baby, so I am trying to appreciate every one of his little quirks and kisses before they are just memories.
Another issue brought up on yesterday's Talk: Do you bathe with your kids? Not ashamed to admit I do. Some days, that is the only way I get a shower, too, so he comes with me and plays in the tub while I exfoliate and shampoo and such. Or when he was sick, we took a lukewarm bath together, since he was so tired of being wet and cold, it stood to reason that he'd appreciate being held, and I think he lasted longer than he would have had I not gotten in, too. And again, it's something else for me to remember. There are no pictures, just great memories for me to fall back on when someday I get tuned out or a door slammed in my face.
I am thrilled that I have gotten to spend such amazing quality time with him. I am incredibly blessed to be a stay at home mom. I am incredibly blessed with a wonderful man who loves me. I am just an incredibly lucky person, and I do my best not to forget it, even when there's puking or a stripping toddler, or chalk drawings on his bedroom door. How many people are this lucky? Not many, so I am going to sit back, count my blessings, and hope I get to hear from you guys, too.

Whole Wheat Pita and Cheetos
So, Dante woke up around 1230pm today, and we had a yummy breakfast of scrambled eggs and fried hot dogs (weird, but that's how Gramma got my little brother to eat eggs, and now it's Dante's turn.). And we watched some Sesame Street. Of course.
Got him dressed and took him over to my neighbor's apartment so she could watch him, and I took a couple organic Braeburn apples and a banana for Dante, and ran out the door. Grabbed some Starbucks and ran to my ultrasound appointment, hoping that if I got there early, they'd see me in a timely fashion. I hate when I'm wrong. My appointment was for 330pm, but they wanted me there at 315pm, so I got there at 310pm. That was worthless. I could have sat and read for a bit at Starbucks; instead I got to read "new parent" magazines in the lobby, while continuously glancing at the clock as my appointment time slipped away like low tide.
Finally was seen by the ultrasound tech (at 340p) and she apologized, since my chart wasn't even put up for her, so she had no idea I was waiting. Granted, she was busier than a one legged man in an ass kicking contest, but she obviously felt bad, so I did my best to hold my tongue. She got one good shot that is good enough for me to show on Facebook, and the rest look like a science experiment. She said they were great shots; exactly what my doc wanted, but all I saw was Alien vs. Predator. Oh, well. She also told me that this baby has a lot of hair, and she's right on track: 1 pound, 15 ounces and about a foot long. I am so stoked! I am sure that since I am so excited, I am going to have the longest 14 weeks of my life! LOL!
Came home, got Dante, and since my neighbor had to hit the Family Dollar downstairs, we made it a field trip and all went together, since I wanted cookies. Yeah, I know. Mama wants cookies, Mama gets cookies. And Dante wanted Cheetos. He had about a third of one of the apples I left for him and a slice of whole wheat pita, so a few Cheetos aren't going to kill him. Besides, I left him. And he behaved and listened. That warrants a treat!
But boy, oh boy was it nap time when we got back to our little bat cave! He was an angry little bugger! But I got to have a couple oatmeal cream pies (the devil, I tell you!) and I've been watching yesterday's episode of The Talk. Which I will discuss in another post.

An Upswing!
I'm very happy to report that Dante is doing much better. Sunday, we went to Albertson's for the stuff to make a focaccia pizza, and he was a little whiny, but as soon as our cashier handed him a "Thanks for Shopping" sticker, he was happy as a clam. So, then we went to the park so Hubby could have time to himself and Dante could get some much needed sunshine and exercise.
We wound up meeting this really nice stay at home mom (whose name eludes me right now!) and her cute 19 month old, Alex. Such a sweet little boy! Dante had so much fun playing with him, and their dog, Kali, and us Moms had a nice chat! My favorite part of this park trip, though, was when we left. Alex was buckled into his wagon, and I told Dante to give him a hug. Instead, Dante leaned over and gave him a kiss on the forehead! My heart melted like a sno-cone on an El Paso sidewalk in July! Every so often, I wonder if I'm doing an ok job, and Dante does something to remind me that I'm teaching him well!
Monday was one of those days that made me want to patiently wait out the waiting period so I can effectively assume a position on a bell tower. Dante woke up from a nightmare around 820 am, when I had to be up at 1030am for a doctor appointment. He finally went back to bed around 9 something and I actually rescheduled my appointment for 1115 instead of 1145, thinking I could get back early and nap.
Got to the appointment, it took less than ten minutes (she didn't even check my fundal height, which pissed me off, but at least I got to hear her heartbeat, which was at 140+ bpm). Then, to add insult to injury, Doc asked me to please schedule another ultrasound because at my 20 week scan, they didn't get very good pictures of her face and neck. Sure, no problem! So I head to the front, grab my nasty orange drink for the glucose screening next month, and then I got told one of the most horrible things I could be told: They don't have anyone on Mondays to do ultrasounds. My love has Sunday/Monday off. Then, without even asking me if it was ok, she just randomly scheduled me for next Wednesday at 330p. I was so pissed, I nearly ran lights and stop signs. So I stopped at 7-11 for a cup of coffee and a Cadbury egg. As I enjoyed that creamy bit of heaven, I threw in a mix cd that I made from some of the music my best friend Chris gave me, long before he passed away. (As in about 5 years ago!) So I was incredibly proud of myself for not having to pull over, like I was a grown up, listening to good, thumpy music. Then one song in particular came on, and luckily I was pulling into my garage, so I just let it go. It occurred to me that no matter how much I cry, how much I punch my steering wheel, he's still gone. I can bitch, moan, cry, doesn't matter. I can't stop listening to the music I love because it reminds me of him. I am beginning to think that it's not fair to him or his memory if I do something so incredibly stupid.
So I came upstairs and just vegged in front of the computer. I looked up ridiculous things just to waste time and make my brain feel useful. Then Dante woke up, and we went downstairs to see our neighbor and her son, F, and we had a blast. They were kind enough to bring some frozen organic yogurt in an ice cream cone for him, and Dante loved it! He ate it with his hands, and it was kinda gross, but he was so happy, I couldn't argue. He got covered in yogurt, and chalk, and he was an absolute mess, but the laughter that bellowed from his lips made me so incredibly happy! He ran, and played with those pull back and go kind of cars, and was just a little boy. Not sick, not tired, just thrilled to be alive, and it was contagious. And luckily, my dear neighbor offered to watch him next Wednesday so I don't have to take him to the ultrasound appointment. Whew! The boys get to play and I get to not worry about him destroying thousands of dollars of equipment while I'm stuck with cold goo on my belly. I'm just sad I have to miss seeing him play. I love the look on his face when he's enjoying himself, or learning. So gorgeous!
Every so often, when I think about everything that's wrong in the world, Dante reminds me that true happiness is squishing a banana between your fingers. Or doodling on yourself with a washable marker. Or singing the ABC's in silly voices. That little boy has been one of the greatest blessings anyone could ever ask for, and I am eternally grateful.

What a Week!
I had a pretty excellent week, I can't lie...On Friday, I went to King Soopers to pick up a couple things and wound up meeting a friend who lives just a few blocks away. Right after she got there I went to check out and I realized that my wallet was in my jacket. At home. So, I punk'd myself. But my buddy was willing to get my decaf for me, so we chatted for a couple hours. Always lovely to chat with a friend.
Saturday, my birthday, was pretty epic. My friend Mindy took me (and Dante) out for lunch, and we went to Rooster and Moon (review to follow.) We had a great lunch and then ran to Target for groceries, and after Target, I brought Dante home for a nap. While he napped, I played around on the internet and was planning on hitting the hay, too, when I heard the door unlock. What? It was 4pm! Hubby works from 130p to 10p! He saunters in and shows me all these fantastic clothes that he picked out for me! AND he brought me a torta from my favorite Mexican joint up North, Trompito. So I put on an impromptu fashion show and figured out what fit and what didn't. He did a great job! It was so awesome! I love my husband! =D
After the shock wore off, I got Dante up and we went to a local Pirate fundraiser for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, and he had a blast! He loved the slides, he loved my friend Heather, and he was his hard to catch self! The zit on the evening was when a bottle of bubbles (Miracle Bubbles, my ass.) EXPLODED in my purse. I was able to salvage the diapers, ultrasound pictures and my wallet,, but my checkbook was all but destroyed. Yay. So we took off and went to a Mexican market for fresh tortillas and then I took back the jeans that didn't fit. Looked for a new purse or a new diaper bag, and I am just picky. I am seriously considering buying a new sewing machine so I can make my dream bag.
Sunday was pretty mellow. I only left to go grab a Sunday paper for the coupons and a cup of joe at the Starbucks downstairs. I love being lazy on rainy days, so that was pretty awesome. I did get laundry done, but when I have such a cute little helper, it's not really that bad of a chore. Especially when there aren't obnoxious neighbors to get in my way.
Yesterday, we were going to go to Albertson's AND Target, but my cart's tiny passenger had other plans. He was testing his "up" and "down" and then decided that my neatly organized coupon organizer was too neat for his liking and dumped it all out in the cart. So I got to find an empty-ish spot of Target to reorganize the damn things and then I pretty much gave up. We went home, I put some food into him and put him down for a nap. I was down for the count, too, so I passed out!
Woke up with a mean hankerin' for pizza, so I ordered pizza. And it was gooooood. Enjoyed some Being Human on SyFy, and put together a new rolling laundry hamper. I felt like Super Mom, and Dante was my Super Helper, handing me the pipe-like pieces. He is too damn cute, I swear.
I am a very, very happy Mama. Life is good!

How did THIS happen?
Two years ago today, I was planted right here. Not really able to move, since I gained 50 pounds while I was pregnant with Dante. (Which probably explains why I have my own butt print on the couch...) I was bitching and moaning that they wanted to wait until my birthday (April 2nd) to induce, unless he decided to make an early entrance into this world. I was tired of being pregnant, tired in general, and the very definition of Super Bitch. Little did I know that at 6:58 am the next day, my water broke like the proverbial floods, and I had to drive myself to the hospital that my doctor wanted me to go to, 23 miles away. Snow fell, and the highway was closed while I was on it. Long story short, Dante was born March 26th, 2009, at 10:18 pm.
It blows my mind that my little boy is going to be two years old tomorrow! It blows my mind that I am pregnant again, like an odd kind of masochist. I am still wrapping my brain around what I must've done to deserve my blessings. I also can't help but wonder what kind of mom I really will be when we get to the brass tacks. Hrm.
I think this is something I can ponder as I go back to sleep.

Walking Brain Fart
I am a walking brain fart. I'll have my keys in my hand while I'm looking for them. That being said, I feel bad for not posting anything yet about my 20 week anatomy scan that took place this past Monday. It went great! I got some great pictures (14!) on a pretty disc, and I need to remember to walk to Walgreen's tomorrow to pick them up since I spaced it today. Baby is about 12 ounces, huge, and already a bully. I got to watch the little bugger punch me! Didn't feel it, but I saw it! LOL!
So, last night after my boys went to bed, I decided to take a shower and take my sweet time since I had the place to myself, essentially. I'm about to step in when my feet squish on the bath mat. Seems that SOMEHOW Dante's shampoo landed on it and leaked. Great. It was a big enough spot that I couldn't rinse it off in the sink. So I figured I'd share the shower with the damn rug to see if I could get it out, then I had planned on wringing it dry and letting it hang. After trying to wring it, I realized that it reeked! So I tiptoed out to the laundry room and washed it. Yeah. When I say I'm insane, I'm really not kidding. So I got to stay up while my bath rug and my kitchen rugs (What? Not gonna waste a load of laundry on ONE ITEM. That's not my way!) went through the wash. I wasn't going to dry them (especially the bath mat since it has a rubber back) but then I figured that may have been part of the reason for that smell. So I set the dryer on "Delicate" and waited patiently in this same spot. Mmmm, couch and laptop..... Anyways, I didn't get to bed til almost 4am.
But today, er, Wednesday, wasn't bad for the most part. Took Dante to Target for a few things that I knew were on sale (and that I had coupons for!) and priced out stuff for his party. Lo and behold, Target was too expensive for what I want, even with all my coupons, so it can wait til I get to Albertson's and King Soopers. Then we went for a cup of coffee with one of my dearest friends, Scott, so we could catch up and I could show him the ultrasound pics. While we were waiting for Scott to get there, Chris "Birdman" Anderson showed up with a friend and I realized from that vantage point that his head grazes the menu board. Next time you go to Starbucks, take a good look at the menu and imagine someone's head getting so close to hitting it that if you smelled that menu, you'd smell his hair products. Got to talk a little smack about the Spurs, and he had a fangirl all but throw her panties at him, and he booked it out of there like a bat out of hell. Can't blame him! (Of note, Denver won 115-112. Good.)
On a different note, I realized today that I have a lot of pet peeves. Enough that I could easily bitch about one a week and be set for a long, long time. I also realized that I could very easily write reviews from a tired mom's perspective about different activities and restaurants around the Denver Metro area. Let me know what you think! While yes, for the most part, this little piece of the blogosphere is for me, I also want to have little bursts of my brain farts around for Dante and the Impending Doom to reference when they are curious as to what my reaction might be to something.
And on that happy note, I think I am going to waddle over to my meds, waddle to the bathroom, and pray I don't kill myself on any of Dante's toys as I waddle to bed.
